Three questions I ask in every workshop
· 1 minThey take four minutes at the start of the day and they decide everything I do for the rest of it.
I used to open with an agenda. Now I open with three questions and rebuild the agenda over the first coffee break, because the answers differ far more between rooms than anyone in the room expects.
- What did you use it for this week? Not "do you use it." The specific task, out loud, in front of colleagues.
- What did it get wrong that you caught? This one tells me whether anybody is checking, and it gives the skeptics something true to hold.
- What are you not willing to hand over? Always the best twenty minutes of the day, and it is where the real policy in an organisation actually lives.
If the room cannot answer the second question, I throw out the plan. Whatever I had prepared is too advanced for a group that has not yet been burned once.
